A tavern in Huntington Station that has been the location of numerous criminal activities has forfeited its liquor license to New York State following the requests from local public officials.

Huntington Town Councilman Mark Cuthbertson began the campaign to prevent Melissa Restaurant and Bar from serving alcohol in July as part of an effort to curb violence at the 1419 New York Ave. location.

The restaurant owners surrendered the establishment's liquor license at a court hearing in Nassau County on Thursday, Nov. 17 after they were faced with the issuance of 28 new violations.

“This is great news for the Huntington Station community and I applaud our police, civic leaders and residents who assisted the Town in applying constant pressure to put an end to violence and crime at Melissa Tavern,” Cuthbertson said in a press release. “For far too long, this establishment has been a detriment to the quality of life for Huntington Station and I am pleased to announce Melissa’s last call is history.”

Police have responded to Melissa Restaurant numerous times over the past few years for reports ranging from attempted robbery to homicide.

In March, a man was shot while sitting in his car in the parking lot of Melissa Restaurant.

Recently, Cuthbertson says police were summoned to the restaurant following a stabbing in late September and shots were fired inside and outside the restaurant on October 22.

The restaurant has been cited by Suffolk County Police for 127 separate incidents over a five-year period, according to Cuthbertson.

“We can all breathe a sigh of relief that due to the actions of the NY State Liquor Authority and the Suffolk County Police Department that it’s finally last call for the service of alcohol at Melissa Tavern,” Cuthbertson says.
