Huntington Town Democratic Committee Response To The Attack On Our Capitol

January 7, 2021

Like so many Americans we were appalled by the mob violence incited by President Donald Trump in our nation’s Capitol. He dared call those agitators, rioters, looters and Confederate flag wavers “special” and told them he “loved” them.
We do not.
We call upon every elected official on Long Island, especially those in the President’s own party, to join us in denouncing the deluded followers of this far-right radical movement that trashed the hallowed halls of our citadel of liberty on January 6, 2021.
As President-elect Joe Biden said that day in Wilmington, “This is not dissent. It’s disorder. It’s chaos. It borders on sedition. And it must end.”
These domestic terrorists and their cowardly, selfish enablers in the Republican Party must be held accountable. They have deliberately fed the fantasy of a stolen vote in states that Trump lost.
In the words of that great Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, we Americans must come together and “summon the better angels of our nature.”
We call upon our entire Long Island Congressional delegation to stand up and speak truth to power: “President Trump, you did not win. Joe Biden did. His victory was the result of a free and fair election.”
Here in Huntington, we Democrats know what it’s like to lose. It’s no fun. But we accept the results and vow to fight again. With ballots, not bullets.
For our form of government to endure, now is the time for all politicians on both sides of the aisle to stop the division that is tearing us apart.
It is time to put our country first and support the peaceful transition of power.
On Nov. 3, the people spoke. Now heed their voice and do the right thing for the good of our country, for the future of this land we love.
