Bellone: Bypassing LIPA leaders to restore power

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said Saturday he is bypassing LIPA's top managers and working directly with local substation coordinators to restore power to Suffolk County residents by Sunday night.

"We are taking matters into our own hands here," said Bellone at a 2 p.m. news conference in the parking lot at the LIPA / National Grid office in Brentwood.

He blasted the home inspection process LIPA implemented five days after the height of superstorm Sandy.

Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer also spoke about his efforts in negotiating with LIPA attorneys over restoring power to the homes south of Montauk Highway that were without serious structural damage.

Suffolk County Deputy Sheriff's PBA Endorse Joe Dujmic

With less than two weeks remaining until Election Day, Joe Dujmic's campaign for State Assembly announced they have receieved a key endorsement from the Suffolk County Deputy Sheriff's Police Benevolent Association.

The Suffolk County Deputy Sheriffs are sworn police officers under the New York State Criminal Procedure Law. They attend the Suffolk County Police Academy along with Suffolk County police recruits and receive the same New York State Police Training Council Police Officer Certification (MPTC). County Executive Bellone was joined by legislators and the Long Island Contractors Association (LICA) at the signing of the approval for $32 million in capital projects to be commenced in Suffolk County in 2012.

The sixteen projects, inclusive of four emergency bridge repairs, serve to improve Suffolk County’s infrastructure and are expected to create more than 300 jobs within the next year.

The projects include repairs and improvements of bridges, energy efficiency and conservation projects at county facilities, repair and resurfacing of county roadways, roadway drainage improvements, elevator system improvements and upgrades at county facilities, exterior structural improvements and replacement of traffic signals.
